Oil and gas Production
Production from new fields faces steadily more demanding conditions: deeper water, greater distances to existing infrastructure, and harsh environments. Existing fields also have complex challenges, including rising water cut and falling pressure. SINTEF puts together cross-disciplinary teams to create the energy-effective seabed solutions for the future, based on a unique laboratory infrastructure.
Multiphase Flow Laboratory
The laboratory's main activity is flow assurance related research for the petroleum industry. It has contributed significantly to the development of multiphase flow simulators, and this is still an ongoing activity. Development of hydrate cold flow technology and sand transport studies are currently also main topics.
The main goal of KOPROD is to demonstrate methods and technology solutions for future competitive production of complex, small and medium volume products for cost-sensitive markets. The project is financed by the Norwegian Research Council's BIA-program.

Direct Electrical Heating of Flowlines (DEH)
Hydrate and wax formation in subsea transport flowlines will cause undesired fluid properties and even blocking of the wellstream, following shutdown and comprehensive repairs. Direct electrical heating (DEH) is developed as a method for avoiding hydrates and wax, and is also applicable for removal of plugs.

SFI Manufacturing's Annual Report 2016
SFI Manufacturing is a cross-disciplinary centre for research based innovations for competitive high value manufacturing in Norway. The research centre has had a successful 2016. – The first full year for SFI Manufacturing was a great one, says centre manager Sverre Gulbrandsen-Dahl.
