4 November: Kick-off for the Paris Climate Agreement and a new CCS research centre
With the new climate agreement which comes into effect on Friday 4 November, the world is committed to cutting its greenhouse gas emissions. All countries must create their own national plans for cutting emissions – and then report on their progress. The laboratory's main activity is flow assurance related research for the petroleum industry. It has contributed significantly to the development of multiphase flow simulators, and this is still an ongoing activity. Development of hydrate cold flow technology and sand transport studies are currently also main topics.

ELMO – Real-time environmental monitoring and modelling of drilling discharges in sensitive areas
Supported by Statoil and NFR (Demo2000) SINTEF is developing a real-time decision support application for drilling operations in sensitive areas.
DREAM – Dose-related Risk and Effects Assessment Model
The numerical model DREAM (Dose related Risk and Effect Assessment Model) accounts for releases of complex mixtures of chemicals, such as those associated with produced water and drilling discharges. DREAM is used as a decision support tool for management of operational discharges to the marine environment.
The main focus of the eControl System is to provide automation and control of the drilling machines by real time assistance of advanced modeling of the downhole drilling process. The Integrated Drilling Simulator (IDS) is a central part of the eControl System. The eControl System is designed to be a stand-alone system independent of rig control system and available interfaces.
The main focus of the eDrilling System is to provide real time supervision and decision support during drilling. It enables decision makers to have better insight into the status of the well and thus make better and quicker decisions. The eDrilling System is now being commercialized by the company eDrilling Solutions, partly owned by SINTEF Petroleum Research.
