Ocean space Marine resources
SINTEF ACE is a full-scale laboratory facility designed to develop and test new aquaculture technologies. Facility users are researchers and others conducting practical experiments and tests both under optimally controlled and realistic conditions.
The main activity of the towing tanks is related to investigation of hydrodynamic performance of ships. This includes resistance, propulsion, seakeeping in head and following seas, and directional stability tests with free running models. The tanks are equipped with two carriages: One for towing up to 10 m/s for traditional calm water tests and a second carriage for seakeeping tests and other tests performed with fixed or free-running models.
ENTiCE is a three year project financed by the Research council of Norway in which SINTEF Fisheries and aquaculture, NTNU, Frøya High School, and the Scottish Association for Marine Science will implement and develop new technologies for studying the interactions between physical, chemical and basic biological processes in coastal waters.
The MACROSEA project will target successful and predictable production of high quality biomass thereby making significant steps towards industrial macroalgae cultivation in Norway.
Mar3Bio – Biorefinery and biotechnological exploitation of marine biomasses
The marine biomasses used in Mar3Bio are brown algae and crustacean byproducts which are sources of the marine polysaccharides alginate and chitosan. These abundant but underexploited renewable biomasses have great potential for production of high value biomolecules.
A “health centre” for juvenile salmon
The condition of the water in salmon hatcheries can tell us a great deal about when and why outbreaks of disease occur. Now, SINTEF researchers are about to expose the water’s secrets, both to prevent suffering in fish and to save the aquaculture industry a great deal of money.
Jellyfish: Disgusting? Useful!
NTNU and SINTEF Ocean participate in a European research project on the use of jellyfish blooms as solutions for producing new products.
