The Smart Seas research group's main strategy is to work with Norwegian industry to develop ICT solutions that can improve efficiency, accuracy, safety of maritime operations, and at the same time support a sustainable utilization of renewable natural resources.
The group collaborates closely with the maritime industry and authorities to develop new ICT solutions that can provide decision support and situational awareness for users at sea. By utilizing new sensor technology, communication systems, autonomous vehicles and big data analytics, new solutions for improved monitoring and data sharing can be developed and deployed at a reasonable cost.
Situated in Tromsø in the north of Norway, access to a realistic test facility for new technical solutions is right outside our offices with many coastal fishermen and a harbor used for crew change for most large fishing vessels.
