Inclusive Societies

Inclusive Societies

Full inclusivity is prerequisite for a better society. Building and developing an inclusive, democratic society is a challenging task for most communities, whether local, regional, national or international, or virtual social media groups independent of political borders.

The notions of “inclusive” and “democratic” are two sides of the same coin. In our view, an inclusive society shall always provide its members with equal opportunity. The workings of the democratic dimension however must be looked at on a case-by-case basis. At SINTEF ICT we are addressing this challenge by looking into how technology can stimulate innovation and the creation of new and better ways to encourage individuals and groups to take an active part in society.

  • how children can be trained to use ICT as a means of learning and developing digital etiquette.
  • the usage patterns of internet-based services across Europe.
  • how to create innovative online services that enable young people to take a more active part in political processes.
  • how ICT can be used actively to train elderly people to take better care of their diet and encourage social involvement.
