Hydrology and run-off modelling

Hydropower plays an important role in renewable energy, both by being renewable, and by enabling regulation when wind and solar power input varies with the weather.

Norway is self-sufficient in terms of electricity production, and has large reservoirs that can be used actively in the short term without compromising the long-term storage. Norway can therefore become a major supplier of balancing services to a North European electricity grid with increasing proportion of wind and solar electricity production. This has consequences both for the rivers concerned and for the analysis underlying the allocation of water resources.
