Additionally hyperbaric facilities for testing of sub-sea components at pressures up to 500 Bar and temperatures up to 200 C have recently been established. This combination of high voltage and high pressure facilities provide a unique combination of laboratory resources well suited for type and development testing of concepts and components for for sub-sea power equipment.
Together with SINTEF Petroleum Research and SINTEF Materials and Chemistry, we are developing new laboratories for safe testing of hyperbaric components in agressive, explosive and/or toxic environments including e.g. methane and H2S gases. for testing up to. Components up to a length of 2 m and a diameter of 0.8 m can be accomodated in the pressure vessel designed for 500 bar pressure and 200 kV high voltage. These facilities will be available from mid-2009.
SINTEF Energy Research also has a number of material testing and analysis lab facilities geared to investigations of electrical, chemical, mechanical and environmental testing of electrically insulating materials which are essential for verifying the performance of materials and components for sub-sea applications.
