South African - Norwegian Collaboration on Health Research

Stellenbosch University
 At Stellenbosch University, strategic research priorities in order to develop as a full-breadth, research-driven university are identified as
  • the cultivation of a stronger research ethos;
  • the development of the financing, infrastructure and technology for research as well as the development of strategically advantageous alliances and partnerships, both within the University and outside of the University;
  • placing a premium, when evaluating staff appointments and promotions, on the scope and the quality of candidates’ research activities and research results;
  • the advancement of knowledge entrepreneurship; and
  • preserving a balance between basic research and applied research, while at the same time acknowledging the principle of academic freedom in research.

Stellenbosch University plays a significant role in capacity building and human resource development as a prerequisite for enhancing innovation in the Human and Social Sciences as well as in the Natural Sciences in South Africa. We aspire to educate and inspire a future generation of researchers.
