Kick-Off meeting
Seminar on Digital Radio Communication as a Tool for Safety at Sea
The seminar will focus technical communication between stakeholders with an assignment to support safety at sea for the mariners. The seminar will be following a rescue exercise, the Barents Rescue ’09, where the MarSafe project will participate as an observer. The MarSafe project will together with the Royal Norwegian Navy (RNoN) perform tests on communication possibilities onboard one of their frigates. The objectives of the tests are to obtain information on available communication technologies in the High North and document their potentials. Another objective is to identify potential data sources that can be exchanged between and used by different stakeholders for better decision support during an operational setting or in critical situations. Examples of users of such data are the traffic centres, the rescue centres, the Norwegian Defence, and the operation centre of shipping/oil -companies.
