  • Project outcomes were presented at:

  • Final open project workshop
    • MARINTEK arranged the final open workshop for the project at Marine Technology Centre in Trondheim on 7th March. Project partners presented the main outcomes of the project for some 30 participants representing different sectors of the Norwegian offshore marine cluster. In addition representatives of relevant arctic marine operations projects managed by different NTNU departments gave brief project overviews. The need for collection of metocean and ice data to improve the environmental design basis was stated by different stakeholders.

  • Paper presentation at ATC in Houston February 7 – 9 2011 by Bjørn Ola Berge – paper title: Design considerations for an Arctic intervention vessel
  • Workshop presentation at "Offshore service vessel performance" – by Tor Einar Berg – presentation title "The challenges of maritime operations in cold climate regions", Tromsø, Norway 11 January 2011
  • Workshop presentation at "Advanced Marine Operations" – by Tor Einar Berg – presentation title: Operations in Arctic waters", Ålesund, Norway, 31 March 2011 (in Norwegian)
  • Paper presentation at Symposium on Green Ship at CSSRC by Saara Hänninen – paper title: “Comparison of ships’ environmental footprint”, Wuxi, China, October 10-11, 2011.
  • Collaboration agreement with the NTNU lead KMB project "Arctic DP":  Discussions on collaboration between our project and the new "Arctic DP" project led by Professor Roger Skjetne started early 2011. A confidentiality agreement between partners in these two project has been prepared and will be signed in November 2011.
  • A paper abstract for the OMAE 2012 conference has been accepted – paper will be prepared in December 2011.
  • Safety at sea challenges Barents Sea (Workshop arranged by Maritime Forum North in collaboration with MARINTEK and Ocean Futures)

2010 and earlier

  • RCN sponsored project MARICE has started. A revised project plan will be presented early April 2010. SINTEF and DNV will collaborate to develop improved models for marine icing on ships and offshore structures
  •  Roger Skjetne has been appointed Professor at Division of marine technology at NTNU. One of his research themes will be DP operations in ice and will partly be sponsored by a RCN KMB project. Four PhD scholarships is supported by the KMB project and students will start summer 2010.
  • DNV’s Joint Industry Project “Ice effects on Arctic offshore structures” had a kick-off meeting for sponsors in November 2009. MARINTEK and NTNU are amongst the sponsors. For more information contact Rolf Helge Lande, DNV
  • MARINTEK and DNV is on behalf of Norwegian Department of Trade and Industry working to establish the research, development and innovation policy for the maritime cluster in Norway. MARINTEK is responsible for preparing of a background note for the topic “Maritime transport and operations in Arctic waters” – deadline for this note is 6 April 2010
