ParTrack

is a numerical model for calculation of the behavior and fate of particles in water. Typical applications include offshore releases of drill mud and cuttings, and dredging activities in coastal areas. A more thorough description is in preparation.

The model simulates concentrations in the water column (basically drilling mud) as well as deposition of the releases at the sea floor (basically cuttings). The particular case shown is from a release of drill cuttings and mud during an exploration drilling in the southern part of the North Sea. Water depth is 25 m. The figures show the build-up of a pile of cutting during drilling in an area dominated by relatively strong currents.
