The first version of SISL was delivered to HP in 1989. Since then there has been a close cooperation on the development of NURBS technology between HP and SINTEF.
Medical modeling
Medical geometry is often represented with 3D contour slices. SINTEF Applied Mathematics is working with both the Department of Anatomy, University of Oslo and with the medical system vendor Vingmed Sound A.S. for modeling this type of data.

CAD and reverse engineering
Reverse engineering in CAD is about the construction of smooth CAD models from measurement data, e.g. from a clay model. SINTEF Applied Mathematics is collaborating with the Norwegian company MetroCAD A.S. (a part of the Metronor Group) in the development of the system GeoRes. The contract work is based on the SISCAT and SISL libraries.

NUMECA International has integrated SISL in their IGG package to support NURBS represented geometry. IGG 3.3 is a highly interactive geometry modeler and grid generator systems tuned to the generation of complex 2-D/3-D geometries as well as surfaces and volume grids for the solution of flow problems.
