In 2009 The Research Council of Norway established eight Centres or Environment-friendly Energy Research (CEERs). These will work for eight years. Focus areas are windpower, solar energy, bioenergy, environmental development of renewable energy, CO
2 treatment and environmentally friendly buildings. An important element will be the further education of young PhD candidates and assisting them to complete their doctorates.
