Fire hazard in the Nordic countries
The result from part 2 of the project "Fire hazard in the Nordic countries" is finished.
In part 1 of the project the development in fire damage in Norway was compared with comparable numbers from the other Nordic countries during the period 1995 - 2003. The conclusion was that the amount of fire indemnity to housings were higher in Norway than in the other countries. Part 2 of the project examined what the reasons could be.
The report from part 2 concludes that the reason for this is other than just fire technical. In addition to the price increases, the contractor profit have increased during the period. We also know that the living floor space and the share of the population living in single family houses is higher in Norway than in the other countries. Our insurance schemes are also very good .
Norway has a considerable number of fires caused by electrical errors compared to Sweden. This is because Norway uses electricity as power soure in a high degree of the housings.
Our main challenge is to find cost-effective measures for reducing the number of fires induced by electrical causes and erroneous use of electrical appliances.
The report from part 2 in the project "Development of Fire Losses in Norway compared with other Nordic countries - Causes of the differences" (in Norwegian) is now available on our website.
